Faith Okorodudu born (1994) is a visual Artist who received her Bachelors degree in Fine Art from the University of Benin. She works Primarily with Acrylic and oil on Canvas using Figures to Portray emotions of Personal and shared experiences.
Her works stimulate comparison between themes, style and morphology, through her chiaroscuro application that is typical of the impressionist. She lends her voice of relevance to black people/women in relation to their body, appearance and self-acceptance. As she aims to educate her audience about people and socio-cultural narratives, adopted by people and the effect it has on them particularly women.
My Art is birthed from my truth and emotions which I use as a channel to express different phases in my life from personal to shared experiences, piecing down emotions with colours and brushes on canvas. I explore themes that reflect on human beings, aesthetics, culture and style. Inspired by these themes I capture Figures in their most natural state relying on the effect of chiaroscuro to set the mood with women being my main subject as I relate better as a woman myself.
My practice is diverse in various media such as painting, drawing, collaging and mixed media. Using different techniques to explore materiality in the creation of art. Art resonates deeply with me, as with every piece I create another is birthed bringing about various series, techniques and experiences.
I also use my art as a tool of activism on the emancipation and unpacking of the complexities of black people/women on social related issues conveying messages on Beauty Standard, insecurity, vulnerability, depression, identity, stereotype just to mention but a few and how it specifically affect the black community particularly woman. I look forward to exploring more in order to broaden my practice and Find a new way to present my works.
